By the end of 2015, if we have not begun to decrease our emissions of greenhouse gases, we will pass a point of no return, a tipping point.
At this time, just 100 months from now, we will see a two degree rise in global temperatures become a very real possibility and with it will come severe changes in our global climate.
This means that action to tackle emissions has to happen today, and each of us has a part to play. Manchester has a stated aim of becoming Britain’s ‘greenest city’. It has a new climate change strategy and it has a track record on CO2 action, not least through Manchester is my Planet and the iconic, solar clad CIS Tower.
Importantly, it was also the world’s ‘first industrial’ city and arguably had a significant hand in industrialisationand fossil fuel use that has brought us to where we aretoday.
The 100 Months Club has been established as a high level network of influential leaders who can take the City Region of Manchester on a radical journey to a low
carbon future.
The Club will share strategies for carbon reduction, encourage stronger and tougher tactics for reducing energy use and it will help Manchester adapt and prepare for a leading role in tackling climate change. The club will begin its activity with an informal
discussion about the opportunities and challenges at board level that climate change presents.
